چکیده
This document describes the operating system support component in the Scalable I/O Initiative. Our eeorts cover three critical areas of scalable, parallel I/O for high-performance multicomputers: networking, memory management, and le and object store. We are lever-aging oo ongoing research results in these three areas. Our main eeorts in the scalable I/O initiative will be directed towards hardening, porting, tuning, and deploying our technology on the target platforms.

متن کاملpNFS and Linux: Working Towards a Heterogeneous Future
Heterogeneous and scalable remote data access is a critical enabling feature of widely distributed collaborations. Parallel file systems feature impressive throughput, but sacrifice heterogeneous access, seamless integration, security, and cross-site performance. Remote data access tools such as NFS and GridFTP provide secure access to parallel file systems, but either lack scalability (NFS) or...
متن کاملModular Scalable I/O
We describe design issues for scalable I/O systems. I/O system modularity is the central issue. We identify the new information and algorithms responsible for high performance in scalable I/O. We show how to assign them to the parts of a scalable computer system so the result is modular. We built a modular I/O system and it is commercially available. We describe its design and performance bench...
متن کاملThe MOSIX Parallel I/O System for Scalable I/O Performance
This paper presents the MOSIX Scalable Parallel Input/Output (MOPI) system that uses the process migration capability of MOSIX for parallel access to segments of data that are scattered among different nodes. MOSIX is a Unix based, cluster operating system that already supports preemptive process migration for load-balancing and memory ushering. MOPI supports splitting files to several nodes. I...
متن کاملNomad: A Scalable Operating System for Clusters of Uni and Multiprocessors
The recent improvements in workstation and interconnection network performance have popularized the clusters of off-the-shelf workstations. However, the usefulness of these clusters is yet to be fully exploited, mostly due to the inadequate management of cluster resources implemented by current distributed operating systems. In order to eliminate this problem and approach the computational powe...
